The differences between top-loading and front-loading commercial laundry equipment
Date: 25/05/2012

It can be difficult to choose new commercial laundry equipment from the plethora of options available. Concerns include the new machine’s practicality alongside its usability and the cost-efficiency benefits it’ll bring to your business.

Perhaps the most important decision you’ll have to make regarding your new commercial laundry equipment is whether you choose front loading or top loading machines.

Machine cost

It’s quite normal to find that top loading machines are a little less expensive to buy than front loaders, however this has to be offset against their lack of stacking capability and that they usually require a hot water supply.

Machine capacity

Top loading machines can not usually cope with the larger loads which front loading machines take into their stride. This can be of course offset by the type and size of machine you buy, but the agitation method used by top loaders is simply not as efficient as the rotational gravity system front loading machines use.

Access

We’ve already mentioned the lack of stacking capability for a top loading machine, which can cause significant problems if space is tight. However, they are easier for customers to use as there is no bending down needed to fill or remove clothes from the machine.

Date: 24/05/2012

Despite the current economic crisis, it seems that laundry businesses are performing very well indeed. Mark Woolfenden, a laundry business owner, has just been named Gwynedd Businessperson of the year due to the success of his Afonwen business.

Mark opened his first laundry in Pwllheli and has already won accolades for his business including the Daily Post Achievement Wales Businessperson of the Year in 2011.

Afonwen now employs over 440 staff and supplies over 40,000 hotels across England and Wales with clean laundry equipment.
Mark said in the Daily Post:

“I am thrilled to be recognised by local business leaders and very humbled to receive this award,” he said.

“Afonwen is very proud of its origins as a small local laundry in Gwynedd serving the community for many years before the modern day washing machine existed.

Mark is hopeful for the future as he sees his business grow, he further commented:

“We plan to continue to rapidly grow and ensure that we continue to develop a professional and ethically sound business of which the founders of Afonwen in Gwynedd would be proud.”

Student laundry services
Date: 10/05/2012

If you’re about to confirm your university accommodation, things which might hold a bearing on your choice include the stumbling distance of your local pub, how far you’ll have to amble to lectures and how much money you can save on accommodation so you can spend it all on beer.

However, when it comes to choosing your university accommodation, it’s probably best to consider a few other factors as well.

Do some research

Most universities in the UK have a number of places in university-owned accommodation which have rooms for students in halls of residence. This will likely be available to new full-time undergraduate students and also visiting or exchange students, if you contact your chosen university they will be able to give you details about the accommodation available. Some university websites also have a quick accommodation search facility to give you an idea about the accommodation on offer. Most halls will include things such as broadband, safe bike storage, communal cleaning and laundry rooms.

Make a shortlist

The next thing to do is make a shortlist of everything you require from your accommodation. This can include things such as important included facilities and ease of access to lecture halls. Like we’ve already mentioned above, a huge factor in many student’s minds will be location to the nearest pub or bar, but what they should really be looking at are the things which will make their lives easier.

Keeping clean

When you start university you’ll likely want to make a good impression on your peers, so things such as cleanliness of clothes should be something you need to think about. And, if you’re thinking about taking all your dirty clothes home to your parents from time-to-time for them to clean, it’s worth thinking again. It’s amazing how many clothes you get through in a week if no one’s doing the laundry and the ironing for you.

If you are looking for university accommodation choosing a halls of residence which has serviced commercial laundry equipment can be a really good idea.

Commercial washers and dryers
Date: 03/05/2012

Laundry services for commercial establishments are now very popular in the UK. These services normally cater for commercial or industrial clients such as restaurants and factories where the amount of laundry which needs to be cleaned on a daily basis far outweighs the establishment’s ability to do it itself. It is thus important that the companies which provide this laundry service work in an efficient and reliable manner. And this is only made possible if the company use commercial laundry equipment.

There are many different brands of commercial laundry equipment available:

Dryers:

Tumble dryers are of vital importance to ensure quick drying of newly washed laundry. If sheets or table cloths are not dried in this way, the drying process can take a protracted period of time and the softness of the finished article can be compromised. Commercial tumble dryers can handle super-large loads in comparison to standard domestic tumble dryers.

Washers:

Commercial washers use water efficiently and can make quick work of large loads of commercial laundry. The washers usually use automatic dosing equipment and are reliable, robust and provide a level of performance that is difficult to match.
