We do do duvets!

If you were born in the 1970s or the early 1980s you’ll likely remember the unlikely duo Trevor and Simon. They made their names on Saturday morning TV shows Going Live and Live & Kicking. The duo were famous for their comic sketches, with favourites including The Singing Corner and The Draper Brothers Dry Cleaning Shop. If you do remember them, you’ll definitely remember their memorable catchphrases including ‘swing your pants’ and ‘we don’t do duvets’.

It’s a fact that many people’s duvets are well overdue a good clean. And while duvets might not be welcome at Trevor and Simon’s dry cleaning shop, they will most certainly be welcome at most laundrettes across the country.

A recent study found that four in every ten people don’t wash their duvets as often as they should and no where near as often as once every six months, a figure recommended by experts. Duvets can contain dust mites, skin cells, bacteria and fungal spores. The survey also found that London was one of the worst places for dirty duvets, with a figure of 58% of people saying that they did not wash their duvet the recommended every six months.

Most domestic sized washing machines haven’t got a big enough drum to handle a duvet. However, commercial laundry equipment is much larger than standard domestic items and can even handle king sized duvets, which come out of the wash spotlessly clean.
