Launderette re-opens after makeover

A run down launderette has been given a new lease of life thanks to a local couple. Tony Knaggs and his wife Phyllis gained ownership of the property in December- which is based in the Redlands area of Chippenham.
The launderette, christened the Harris Laundromat, has undergone a makeover worth thousands, transforming it from a run down hang out for youths to an attractive part of the community.
Harris Laundromat is home to some of the most modern commercial laundry equipment, and there are plans to offer a laundry ironing facility in the not too distant future.
Mr Knaggs explained:
"Everything from the floor to the ceiling and everything in between needed to be cleaned or replaced. It was worse than I anticipated.
“It had a bit of a reputation before with children hanging around in there skipping school and we want all that to change.”
The launderette has also been given the thumbs up from local councillor Nina Phillips who enthused:
“I have battled against anti-social behaviour and to make improvements to the area over the last ten years and I am delighted.
“Residents will benefit from this excellent local facility, and now all the shops in Redland are full.”
Harris Laundromat is open between 9am and 6pm.
